How to keep pets cool during hot weather

As the summer heatwave hits, many pet owners are wondering how to keep their furry friends cool and comfortable. Here are some tips from the experts:

• Give your pet access to plenty of fresh, cool water at all times. Add ice cubes to their water bowl to help keep it extra cool.
• Make sure your pet has a shady spot to retreat to when they need a break from the heat. Put up a canopy or umbrella in your yard, or create a makeshift “pet tent” inside using a sheet or towel.
• Apply pet-safe sunscreen to your animal’s exposed skin, like their nose and ears, to prevent sunburn.
• Take your pet for a swim! If your dog loves the water, take them for a dip in a lake, pool, or even the sprinkler. Just be sure to supervise them at all times to avoid any accidents.
• Give your pet a cooling treat. You can make your own frozen dog treats by freezing peanut butter or yogurt in an ice cube tray. Or, buy some commercially-made frozen pet treats from the store.
