Airedale Terrier is the 19th century breed, was discovered by working class at Aire River Valley region of northern England. This breed first found in 1876 at Shipley and then after it became officially found in England. In the early 1880’s this dog came to North America and this dog is also known as three in one gun dog, appropriate for hunt game bird on land. During the 19th century, some terriers interbred with otterhounds for enhancing hunting skills around water and the resulted dog is expert in otter hunting. After that, this breed crossed with Bull and Irish Terriers for removing traits of otterhound but this was not popular. This breed is playful, adventurous, and bold. The average weight of the male Terrier is between 23 to 29 kg whereas the average weight of the female Terrier is between 18 to 20 kg. The Height of the male Terrier is between 22 to 24 inches whereas female Terrier height is between 22 to 23 inches. The average lifespan of this breed is between 10 to 13 years and they are available in black and tan and Grizzle and tan colors. This breed has two layer coat the topcoat of this breed is dense and wiry and the undercoat is short and soft. The Airedale Terrier has short and wiry breed so this dog required brushing once in a week because weekly brushing keeps the coat shiny and removing the dead hair. As an owner, you should do the complete grooming of dog 3 to 4 times in a year from bathing to nail trimming. Generally, this breed is healthy but some have the problem of hip dysplasia and this problem needs the costly surgery to repair. Remember that if you buying a new puppy for home then take written health contract from a breeder.
